The Fix Part 2

Another dose of those musical yum yums.  This time a little bit harder.

Kaskade's new single given the acid house treatment à la Hardwell or Deniz Koyu

Hip hop/moombahcore hybrid.  The rap is pretty corny but this song goes hard as hell.

First heard this in Porter Robinson's essential mix.  I want to call it trance but its just sooo dirty.

I think the subtitle of this remix gives you a sense of how dark and nasty this is.  Moombahton sent throught the apocolyptic meat grinder.

Enjoy humans,

Swedish House Mafia Essential Selection 2

About two weeks ago, Swedish House Mafia took over mixing duties from Pete Tong on the BBC Essential Selection, showcasing a handful of HUGE unreleased tracks.  I would suggest listening to the whole mix, but I'll include what I think are the tracks you should know.

New track from the boys? Hell yeah.

Brand spanking new Alesso.  This one is gonna be big.

First debuted at MSG by SHM, this track is a minimal monster.

Finally.  Its been a long while since the last Steve Angello bangers (think KNAS, Rave N' Roll).

Never heard of either of these guys, so you know this song is good if I'm willing to post it.

Enjoy humans.

Happy To You

Miike Snow is set to release a new album titled "Happy To You" March 13th and I could not be more excited. All of the pre-release material has been excellent. Here are two remixes of tracks from the forthcoming album. One by electro-house god Wolfgang Gartner, and another by a relatively unknown Keys N Krates.

The Fix Part 1

First of all, I'd like to apologize for being so absent lately, even after Slaptop took the time to get us a soundowl account so we could start posting again.  Unfortunately the fucking man at my school moniters our internet usage, and specifically warned us about uploading copywrited material through their wireless network.  Fortunately for all of you, that's not my only internet access, so I've loaded a healthy collection of new songs that I'll be posting over the next few days.

Let's get to it.  I'm feeling a bit trancey for this first round.

"I'm feeling sexy and free." Nuff said.

One of the best new electro/trance style songs I've heard in months.  Try and get this out of your head.

Beautiful progressive trance track that washes over your ear drums.

New from Gareth Emery's Garuda label.  Trance with a hit of Toulouse.  You'll get it once you listen.  Keep an eye on both these guys, they've been doing big things lately.

That's it for now, expect another dose soon.

Pop Dance

There is nothing cool about posting Skrillex on your electronic music blog. That said, I am gonna do it again. this song is just to creative and slappin to ignore.

Hard Rock Sofa

Don't know much about this Russian trio. But their new release titled "Quasar" directed my attention to these guys who are undeniably a part of the recent emergence of Russian house music onto the world stage.

Felix Cartal

Felix Cartal is a name that I have always heard but never gotten around to listening to until recently. Big mistake. This Vancouver native is a dance music machine. His latest release entitled "Domo" shows of his clean production chops, penetrating rhythmic hits, and his firm grasp of melody and harmony. Some might find the drop to be a little too aggressive but i urge you to give it a shot on the dance floor before writing this one off completely. Also check out "Don't Turn Off The Lights", probably his most popular release and a solid track all around.

Bingo Players

Bingo Players, a Dutch production duo, is responsible for some of my favorite new discoveries. They combine a tasteful simplicity with catchy melodies to create raw dance-floor smashers.

"L'Amour" is the latest release from the group. Few things in my library hit harder than the opening synth line in this track.

"dah dah dah dah . . . dah dah dah . . . dah dah dah . . . dah dah dah dah"

Another great use of familiar sounds (trumpet in this case) to keep the groove simple and yet bumpin.

Their original hit; still a classic.

Hudson Mohawke

Hudson Mohawke is one of the most talented DJ's I have ever seen. He produces percussive hard hitting tracks that fall somewhere between Hip/Hop, R&B, and Dubstep, but none of these genres are really able to characterize the unique creativity he brings to his productions. His live sets are characterized by expressive mixing (a rarity these days) along with creative uses effects and loops to create entirely new soundscapes. Keep an eye on this Scotish producer as I am certain he will continue to bring something fresh to the table.
